Newsletter: July Pg. 9 Third Platoon

Third Platoon

This month third platoon, along with the rest of the 59th, made history with the transfer of United States Forces-Iraq Theater Internment Facility. The limited forces provided by the concurrent unit here on Cropper prior to the transfer meant that 3rdPlatoon had to pull extra shifts to get the job done. They did so with a renewed sense of enthusiasm and drive to finish our work and move on to the next challenge. Recently we learned that we are pulling out of our current living space and moving over 100 miles away to tackle that challenge. Although we are not sure what our specific mission will be, the Soldiers are eager to move on and will no doubt continue to prove themselves and come home to their Families in victory.
This month of change is not exclusive to mission change. Former CPL Young was promoted to SGT after weeks of dedicating himself to completing correspondence courses on his off time. In addition, Private First Class Heim was promoted to Specialist. Further, as part of a routine change in platoon leadership, 1LT Odell will be replaced by 2LT Barslou as third platoon leader effective this month. 2LT Barslou has already begun proving himself as a good solid leader, and just what third platoon needs. Congratulations to all those promoted this month.
With the recent changes, third platoon has been busier than ever. While still working the Facility to care for the remainder of the detainees, we have been packing both unit and personal equipment to prepare them to be moved to our new area of operations. As always, when we reach our new destination, we continue to welcome the care packages and support from Family and friends back home. With this new challenge brings new opportunities to continue to make a difference for the Army and our Country. HOOLIGANS!

1LT Jason Odell - Hooligan 6
SFC Mitchell Vazquez - Hooligan 7
